The AMF awards its 2025 prize for young researchers in economics to Alexandre Madelaine
The AMF launched the Young Researcher Award in 2015 to support academic research on topics related to regulation and the financial markets. The AMF prize rewards this year Alexandre Madelaine, Assistant Professor at Erasmus Unisersity Rotterdam (Rotterdam School of Management).
This year, the Autorité des marchés financiers is awarding its Young Researcher Prize in Economics to Alexandre Madelaine for his work, based on quantitative and qualitative approaches, in several areas of specific interest to the AMF. Alexandre Madelaine obtained his doctorate in accounting from HEC Paris in 2023. His research focuses on the implications of financial information disclosure by institutional and retail investors. In particular, he has examined why professional investors disclose information and how this influences other investors. In addition, his work has examined the disclosure of information relating to short selling, revealing, for example, that such disclosures may encourage targeted companies to distribute dividends. More recently, he analyzed the consequences of retail investors' use of financial forums.
He observes that the most widely shared messages combine financial knowledge with references to the popular culture of the forums, and can encourage internet users to mobilize collectively, as in the case of Gamestop.
The winner officially received his prize at the meeting of the AMF Scientific Advisory Board on 30 January 2026, during which he presented the results of his research to the Board members.
The €5,000 AMF Young Researcher Award in economics recognises and encourages the work of researchers under the age of 35 on economic and financial topics of specific interest to the securities market regulator.
