The Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) has issued a public warning against the activities of individuals impersonating the delegate of the AMF Ombudsman by making false referrals to FIN-NET, the European Commission body in charge of financial disputes

Investors have notified the AMF of having been contacted by individuals claiming to belong to official bodies such as the AMF, the European Commission and FIN-NET allegedly to help them recover money invested or losses on websites offering execution of transactions on the Forex or binary options markets.

In order to achieve their goals, these individuals use false email addresses from the AMF and FIN-NET network, the latter being in charge of encouraging the resolution of financial disputes through exchanges between ombudsmen. These individuals also mention an alleged letter issued by the AMF and signed by the delegate of the Ombudsman.

The AMF is asking those contacted by such individuals not to respond to their requests.

The AMF will be shortly filing a complaint in civil proceedings. The AMF also indicates that its mediation procedure is entirely free and that under no circumstances will a financial contribution be requested from individuals.

The AMF reminds investors that its website is accessible at http://www.amf-france.org and invites those with queries to contact staff at the AMF Investment Information Service on +33 (0)1 5345 6200, Monday to Friday from 9AM to 5PM.
