End of the term of office of the AMF chairman and interim chairmanship

The non-renewable five-year term of the chairman of the Autorité des Marchés Financiers, Robert Ophèle, comes to an end on 31 July 2022. Jean-Claude Hassan, a member of the AMF Board, will act as interim chairman of the Authority.

The Monetary and Financial Code stipulates that the President of the Republic appoints the chairman of the AMF for a non-renewable term of five years. In accordance with Article 13 of the Constitution, the competent standing committees of the two houses of parliament must first be consulted.

On 22 July 2022 the French Ministry for the Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty published a press release initiating a call for candidacies for the next chairman of the AMF, with candidacies to be submitted before 26 August 2022. The ministerial announcement specifies in particular that the selected candidacies will be examined by a panel of qualified public figures. The panel will interview the selected candidates and present a recommendation for appointment to the position of AMF chairman.

In the decision of 5 February 2019, published in the Official Journal of 7 February 2019, Jean-Claude Hassan, a member of the Board since 2013, was nominated "to stand in for the chairman if he is incapacitated or his post becomes vacant". Jean-Claude Hassan, 67, is a member of the Conseil d'Etat, and was a member of the AMF Enforcement Committee from 2008 to 2013.
