Special edition of the AMF Barometer: while artificial intelligence is still not widely used in investment practices, it is winning over more young investors

For the first time, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers is publishing a special edition of its Savings and Investment Barometer devoted to artificial intelligence (AI). The study analyses the place of AI in the investment practices of the French, its uses and how it is perceived. It highlights a generational divide: young people are five times more likely than their elders to say they use AI to obtain information before investing their money.

French people who use AI to obtain information before investing are still in the minority, but are more numerous among young people

According to our latest Savings and Investment Barometer published in December 2025, 11% of French people say they use artificial intelligence as a source of information before making an investment, far behind their bank or financial advisor (42%) (survey of a sample of 2,120 people aged 18 and over, administered between 19 September and 3 October 2025).

An in-depth analysis of the data shows that, among these 11% of users, there is a fairly even split between men (13%) and women (9%). On the other hand, a generational divide emerges: the under-35s are much more likely to use AI than their elders (19%, compared with 4% of the over-55s).

The use of artificial intelligence as a source of information also varies by social profile. It rises with education level and socio-professional position. For example, 17% of people with more than two years higher education say they use AI as one of their sources of information before making an investment. This percentage is 5% among people with no qualifications or those with only secondary education.

Greater use of AI among "risk-loving" profiles

33% of crypto-assets investors, 24% of crowdfunding investors and 19% of stock market investors (holders of financial market investment products through a securities account or plan -PEA) say they use AI as a source of information before making an investment.

29% of French people who are prepared to accept a greater degree of risk in relation to their investments in the hope of obtaining the best possible return use artificial intelligence to obtain information before making a decision.

AI use remains hybrid

Among the 11% of French people who use AI as a source of information, this is often to supplement the information provided by a financial institution or advisor (41%). It also enhances the research carried out, particularly online (54%). However, the exclusive use of AI as a reliable source of information before making an investment decision is still very much in the minority (5% of people who use AI).

The French perceive the use of AI by professionals as positive, but with clearly identified risks

The majority of French people believe that the use of AI by professionals when proposing investments to their clients could offer benefits: advice that is better tailored to their personal situation (54%), as well as improved performance and lower investment fees (52%).

However, the perceived risks are high: two out of three French people (67%) believe that this specific use by professionals could lead to errors or poor decisions (75% of 18-35 year olds). 57% of French people also fear that investments will be less transparent and harder to understand.

Limited influence on the decisions of retail investors

Among investment product holders, the use of artificial intelligence to guide or modify investments remains limited overall. Thus, 59% of these people say they never use it, while 33% say they use it occasionally. Only 8% say they use it frequently for this purpose.

Therefore, at this stage, artificial intelligence appears to be a support tool rather than a decision-making tool in the field of savings and investment, with a balanced perception among the French of the benefits and risks associated with the use of AI by professionals. This use is likely to increase sharply over the next few years. The AMF will monitor developments in use closely in future editions of its Barometer.
