AMF Annual Report 2019: Letter from the AMF Chairman to the President of the Republic

The Annual Report of the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) was published on 29 April. Pending its translation, the letter from the AMF Chairman to the French President, which is part of the preface to the Report, has now been published. AMF Chairman Robert Ophèle draws particular attention to the initial effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the fields which fall within the remit of the Authority.

Each year, the AMF Chairman addresses the French President in the preface to the institution’s Annual Report. This year, against the backdrop of the current global health crisis, Robert Ophèle describes the initial effects of the pandemic on the fields falling within the AMF’s remit.  He provides a recap of the various measures taken by the Authority in recent weeks to guarantee the orderly functioning of the markets and financial ecosystem, and to protect retail investors. The AMF has been fully mobilised, despite the lockdown affecting nearly all its staff, in order to ensure fine monitoring of specific situations, an overall analysis of the situation and the adjustment of its regulatory responses. Finally, Robert Ophèle refers to the challenges yet to come.
