Christophe Bonnet appointed Data and Surveillance Director at the Autorité des Marchés Financiers
Until now Deputy Director of the Data and Surveillance Department and Head of Data Policy, Christophe Bonnet succeeds Alexandra Givry, who will soon leave the AMF after devoting 17 years to financial market supervision and transforming the AMF.
A graduate of ENSAE Paris and holder of a DEA in Mathematics applied to economics from the University of Paris-Dauphine, Christophe Bonnet began his career in 2001 as a statistician at BNP-Paribas, before joining Natixis in 2005 to manage the econometric modelling of tools for calculating regulatory risk. In 2010, he joined the AMF, where he headed a team supervising investment services providers with a specific focus on post-trade topics. He later became head of the data-driven supervision team which was set up to exploit all the data received by the regulator, specifically for supervisory purposes. In 2021 and 2022, he led the Research and Strategy Unit at Agence France Trésor, where he contributed to defining the State's financing strategy by analysing the fixed-income markets and developing quantitative models. Christophe Bonnet returned to the AMF at the end of 2022. He was appointed Head of Data Policy, then Deputy Director of Data and Surveillance in November 2024. His appointment as head of the department reflects the importance the AMF attaches to data science in market supervision and in all the AMF's business lines.
At the heart of the AMF's mechanism for ensuring the proper functioning of the markets, the Data and Surveillance Department is on the frontline of detecting any market anomalies. Through modern tools, such as its ICY supervisory platform, which is based on Big Data and artificial intelligence technologies, combined with the expertise of staff who specialise in data science and markets, the department carries out active supervision, making it possible to quickly identify an event or behaviour likely to constitute market abuse. The data it analyses on a daily basis also enables it to study market trends and the possible development of new investor practices or behaviours. Thanks to its expertise, the department plays a key role in the deployment and adoption of data and artificial intelligence at the AMF.
