Retail investor activity up again
Each quarter, the AMF's active investor dashboard tracks the number of individual investors who have carried out at least one transaction in a financial instrument.
In Q1 2025, a large number of them invested in equities and ETFs.
Renewed appetite for listed equities
In Q1 2025, the number of private individuals buying or selling listed shares in the European Union rebounded to 801,000, up 9% on Q1 2024. The number of transactions carried out by private individuals stood at 11.9 million (+12% on Q1 2024), a level not seen for two years.
71,000 new equity investors were recorded. These were first-time investors or investors who had been inactive since January 1, 2018.
ETF activity continues to grow strongly
In Q1 2025, 435,000 individual investors bought or sold exchange traded funds (ETFs). Of these, 393,000 were buyers.
In total, the AMF recorded 2.3 million ETF transactions in Q1 2025 (+44% on the last quarter of 2024, +130% year-on-year).
105,000 new ETF investors were counted in Q1 2025 (+ 98% in one year, a 4.5-fold increase in two years).
The AMF's dashboard is based on transaction data supplied by French financial institutions and the French branches of European Union institutions.
